There is plenty to see and do in the local area of Richmond and Yorkshire Dales.
Richmond is a delightful market town, which has developed over the last 950 years (or so!) around its greatest asset, Richmond Castle. No visit to Richmond is complete without a visit to the castle and if you are able to climb the (many) steps to the top of the 100ft keep, you will be rewarded with magnificent views over our town and beyond.
Below the castle, the awe inspiring River Swale flows through the town and over the falls. On a summers day, when the water is low it can be difficult to imagine the ferocious torrent that thunders over the falls when the waters rise. Please do take care if visiting when in flood.
Richmond is popular with walkers and hikers, thanks to its many beautiful routes around the town, along the River Swale and into the surrounding countryside. The famous coast to coast route passes through our town.
If all that sounds too strenuous, perhaps you'd rather mooch around our charming cobbled market place and explore the unique shops, cafes, restaurants, traditional pubs, art galleries, Georgian theatre and museums? A little further out of town you'll find The Station, an inspiring restoration of a redundant railway station that is now home to a cinema, café, art gallery and artisan bakery.
Richmond is known as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales and provides a great base to travel further afield to explore the stunning landscapes, villages and towns in the area.
